I tried them in the first cam last sept or October. They will last a ridiculously long time with lithium batteries. I like the size of the cams and they hide well. When it's dead still at night, I wouldn't be surprised if a deer could. I have never heard the shutter on These cams. Mature deer have a knack for knowing something's not right, and I don't know if they tend to hear the camera or see it or what. I always wear gloves while handling them and I try to hide them or put them up high. Most of them have returned to the area on a regular basis, but they do seem to notice the cameras from time to time, not unlike most other cameras I've owned. I've had pretty good luck getting mature bucks to stand around and have multiple pics taken. I bought the first one several years and I liked it, so I got a couple more. I am running three m80s right now with good results. Just my findings after 1 fall of use on the specific modes listed above. So old I can't find the model numbers for them. Got a couple old moutries that are traditional white flash cams that have never spooked a deer off. I won't be hanging a M-80 in a place I plan to hunt anymore. Cam wasn't hidden, and tree wasn't much bigger than camera width either. Just to let you I had Moultire m-80 when I used a pny sd card it ruined my camera. Was running a D55IR and had a mature buck feed nightly in front of it without showing any negative affects at all.
